Step Two: Living the life of Quiet Desperation
Being sick is awful. Being unemployed is terrible. Getting phonecalls for interviews while too sick to actually go to them is unbelievably evil. My best friend, an optimist and the kind of guy who will actually talk to the creepy weirdos who strike up random conversations about the weather, bugs, or aluminum underpants, opines that all of this is 'happening for a reason'. HAH! I did something wrong in a previous life, I know it. Or, and now I'm just spitballing ideas, it has something to do with the fact that of my last three jobs, I went insane and quit two of them with little or no notice, and some evil (or possibly benign, given certain extracurricular habits) is having it off with me.
It's possible. Especially if you've seen The Forgotten. It's a movie about evil aliens who perform experiments on a mostly unsuspecting population. (the only people who know are some Feds, and for some weird reason, Gary Sinise). So, yeah, it could happen. It's all very plausible. Which is why I'm quietly desperate. The aliens are trying to crush my mind, but you see, I've got the tinfoil underpants and matching hat ensemble to keep them at bay now ....
